Privacy Policy

Effective September 3, 2026

Pamir Traverse Virtual Challenge is a free hobby project operated under the Adventurizer brand (“we,” “us”). This page explains what information we collect when you use the site, how we use it, and who else sees it.

Information we collect

  • Account information. Sign-in and account management is handled by Clerk. We store your Clerk user ID and the preferences you set in the app (distance unit, leaderboard visibility, and any route-branch choices) — we don’t separately store your email or password.
  • Strava activity data (optional). If you connect Strava, we store the OAuth tokens needed to sync your activities, your Strava athlete ID, and — for each synced activity — its type, distance, and date. We do not store GPS routes, maps, or location traces from Strava, only the aggregate distance figures used to move your avatar along the route.
  • Manually logged activity. If you log a walk or run by hand instead of connecting Strava, we store the same activity type, distance, and date you enter.
  • Analytics. We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate site usage. It doesn’t use cookies or track you across other sites.

How we use it

We use this information to show your progress on the route map, compute your position, sync new Strava activities, and display the optional public leaderboard described below.

Public leaderboard

By default, other participants can see your first name, your progress along the route, and a marker color on the shared leaderboard/map. You can hide yourself from other participants at any time from your account settings — you’ll always still see your own progress.

Third parties

We rely on a small number of third-party services to run the site: Clerk for authentication, Strava for optional activity sync (governed additionally by Strava’s own API agreement and privacy policy), and Vercel for hosting and analytics. Each processes data on our behalf under its own terms.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your activity and account data for as long as your account is active. You can disconnect Strava at any time from the Import from Strava section of the log sheet, which revokes our access and deletes the stored tokens (activities you’ve already imported stay on your trek). We don’t yet have a self-serve way to delete your account — email us (below) and we’ll take care of it.

Children’s privacy

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
